Safety first

Safety first

The state Department of Transportation here in Hilo has been doing an excellent job with highway beautification, but I think it’s more important to concentrate on safety — namely on Highway 11 from mile marker 28 down to Hilo. There are too many miles at night where traffic lanes are invisible.

Please don’t wait for a multi-car wreck. Re-stripe and place new reflectors.

They all agreed

I am writing a letter to answer the question of how come “Peter Boy” Kema was returned to the parents despite thousands of documents showing abuse by the parents.

The parents’ attorney, along with the attorney general, agreed with each other to return the child. It was the Family Court judge who authorized the deal between the two attorneys.

All sides went into conference — the guardian ad litem; the attorney general, with the CPS case worker; the attorney for the father, without the father; the mother’s attorney, without the mother; and the judge.

Why I am closing

To all my friends, businesses, customers and the people of Hilo: I have decided to close down my parts business as of January 2016, until further notice.

My decision to close is because of the Department of Health’s treatment for the last 20 years. They have picked on me for more than 20 years; every time they get a complaint, they fly over from Oahu to harass me.

I have donated cars to the Fire Department, Army and schools for the past 20 years. I have also displayed wrecked vehicles around Hilo for the “Don’t Drink &Drive” program, and all of these vehicles have come from my parts department.

The DOH came to my business in the middle of this year and demanded to enter my business. I told them to go and get a warrant first. They came back, so they ordered me to cease operation of my parts department until I obtain a solid waste permit. They fined me $7,500 for not letting them enter my business.

Is Hawaii a part of America, or are we part of a Russia? The DOH thinks they can enter any business without a warrant. The state attorney general told me in a phone conference that the DOH can enter any business without a warrant.

So, for that reason I will be closing my Kukila Street parts department, and would like to thank all my loyal customers, friends and business associates for all the years you supported me and my employees.

Please don’t forget to keep Hawaii drug-free, and kids: Say no to drugs.
